Quantum Dot Emission enhanced by Optical Antennas

In this example, we examine an optical antenna designed to increase the spontaneous emission rate from a semiconductor quantum dot. This phenomenon creates the potential for LEDs that can be modulated faster than lasers. The optical antenna is a pattern of 50 nm thin-film of gold. The merit function is power radiated by the antenna normalized to the output power of a dipole radiator in free-space.
